Kakuro solver
Copy your Kakuro into the grid, press Solve, and see the answer. It works for any size up to 12 × 12 and tells you whether the puzzle has a single solution.
How to enter your puzzle
- Choose the grid size, counting the clue squares along the top and left edges.
- Make the shape. Every square starts white. Click a white square to turn it into a dark clue square; click the small circle in a clue square to turn it white again.
- Type the clues. In each clue square, the top-right box is the total for the squares to its right (across), and the bottom-left box is the total for the squares below it (down). Leave a box empty if it has no clue.
- Press Solve. The digits appear in green. If something's wrong, the solver tells you which clue can't work, for example a total of 3 across four squares.
How the solver works
The solver tries digits square by square, always starting with the square that has the fewest possibilities. For each run it keeps track of which digits are still unused and checks that the remaining total is still reachable. That rules out most wrong paths straight away, which is why even large grids solve almost instantly. Then it keeps looking for a second solution. A properly made Kakuro has exactly one, so if it finds two, it says so: usually that means a clue was typed in the wrong square.
